The University of Malawi (Unima) has dismissed social media claims that 100 students at the institution have tested positive to COVID-19 leading to immediate closure of the institution.
Unima’s Registrar, Mary Wasiri, has clarified that in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases nationwide the University suspended face to face teaching and adopted an online system of imparting the lessons.
She said in the past week, a power surge destroyed several wifi routers hence suspending classes for a week to allow the procurement department of the University to replace the damaged gadgets.
“There’s nothing like 100 students testing positive, I don’t know where people are getting these figures. We are on a temporary break as the procurement unit is processing the orders,” said Wasiri.
