Government will extend employment contracts for Primary School teachers under IPTE 13 by two months using financial resources from the World Bank.
Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu has disclosed this on Wednesday during scrutiny of vote by vote of the 2021 - 2022 National Budget in Parliament, Lilongwe.
He was responding to a question from Mulanje Bale Legislator, Victor Musowa.
The Parliamentarian wanted to know if the K27.6 billion to the Department of Human Resource Management and Development DHRMD includes funds for the recruitment of the teachers.
In February this year, the Government engaged about 3, 270 auxiliary teachers, for five months, to fill vacancies in various primary schools across the country.
Their recruitment was partly aimed at helping reduce the teacher-learner ratio in the wake of the COVID-19 global health pandemic.
